Gwen Jensen NVMP Committee Member

   In 2003 I joined my husband in retirement from teaching in the bay area. In that same year we moved to Sparks to be near our son, a member of Reno Fire Dept., his wife and our grandson.

   In 2008 I joined Blue Star Mothers of America, when our military son was deployed for a year in Afghanistan. 

  In 2013 I became the Charter President of the Blue Star Mothers of Spanish Springs.  While being president, I was introduced to Ron Smith, a councilman and manager of my local Scolari’s grocery store.  One day while shopping Ron invited me into his office and told me he would like our Blue Star Mothers to help with a project he was working on.  He got my number and said he would phone me when he was ready for the chapter’s help. Two years went by before I got that phone call.  Ron asked if I was ready and invited me to the first meeting of the Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza Committee. I said I would be at the meeting and have continued to be a member of the committee ever since.

  The BSM of Spanish Springs is so proud to be supporters of the NVMP.  We are mostly known for our Margarita Booth at the Red Hawk NVMP Golf Tournament, held annually to raise funds for the plaza project.

 I enjoy working with the people on this committee and I am so excited to see this project in it’s finished form.
